August 2010. This panoramic photo of The Point at Camp Van Vac was taken on July 2, 2010, at 8:54 P.M., the last evening of our summer vacation at Camp. It was the best sunset we witnessed during our week-long stay at Burntside Lake and the resort. As soon as I saw the clouds gathering, I grabbed my tripod and camera and ran to The Point.

For a photographer, clouds are to a sunset what a blank canvas is to a painter. As we watched the day's last rays, we were sad to say goodbye to Cabin 5 and its wood-burning stove, our early morning fishing trips, boating to the Dead River, our daily trip to the Hegman Lake pictographs, and our afternoon swims at the beach.

During our drive home the next morning, we chattered in the car about our week of adventures and experiences, and it became apparent that we had created many precious memories for our children during our stay at Camp Van Vac. --Chip Williams
